As a supply house, especially if you are hosting backflow courses, but even if not, it makes sense to offer products and services to backflow testers. The industry is often under-served which creates opportunities to find new customers for your other products. This would include backflow preventers for install, repair kits, and also backflow test kits and calibrations. As a supplier of test kits for years now, and experienced in the industry both with executing courses and calibrating / supplying new test kits, we understand the issues with re-selling test kits, specifically when considering calibration dates, missing components, test procedures, number of valve formats, branding, etc. We can help you develop your backflow offerings through co-branding, and wholesale agreements for the TK-2 test kits. Generally, we customize offerings for resale based on the version of the test procedures accepted by your area, and include a free calibration which informs the customers about the calibration process and also alleviates some issues where if you wholesale test kits they often have old calibration dates and are unusable, unless you are moving a lot of stock. Also you have to deal with the manufacturer's reps which cut the whole agreement percentages, working directly with the manufacturers could make your process more efficient and deliver more value to your customers.
As a backflow instructor, you know how it goes. The first day of the class, the students start asking which test kit should they get, what is the next step after the class, etc. Now that the more main stream test kit providers are limiting their re-sale availability for schools and focusing more on manufacturer's reps and distributors. We used to re-sell other kits and are familiar with the processes. The main issue we have had over the years is that instructors are unfamiliar with the 2 valve system, we have found that you can do multi-hose or single hose procedures much more efficiently with a 2 valve tester kit, despite 5 valve being more popular in many areas. Plus the kits are just smaller and easier to use. The issue of durability comes up a lot as well, students do not care about your equipment, sometimes they get dropped or needle valves get stripped out, we have heavy duty all brass needle valves you can literally hit with a hammer, the body is all anodized aluminum and casing is very tough / water resistant, etc. Also the functionality and construction is compliant with ASSE 1064-2020 and valid for any jurisdiction that the testers plan to use them. The TK-2 has been around for 5 years now, and issues with approvals or acceptance have been addressed. We can give you more information on the program, click the link above and send us an email with your information. Essentially we provide instructors with a free demo gauge and a discount code which allows students to receive a discount and provides you with a commission, we helped some other gauge providers set something like this up and works much more efficiently than requiring schools to buy kits and then re-sell them. If you wanted to switch your class to all TK-2s we can definitely help you with that as well.
